Showing of “Education Under Fire”

On January 28, 2013 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Rockrimmon Library, 832 Village Center Drive, Colorado Springs, "Education Under Fire”, a documentary film is being shown and hosted by the
local Baha’i community to help raise public awareness among as many individuals as possible of the plight of the Iranian Baha'i community and the despicable policies of the Iranian government with regards to higher education. The campaign is called “Education Under Fire” and the campaign has the full support of… Show more Amnesty International and many other human rights organizations. It deals with the Iranian government’s denial of the right to higher education for the past thirty years to all of the members of its largest non-Muslim religious minority– the Baha’is. Many of those who have tried to offer education to these youth in informal settings have been arrested and some have been sentenced to harsh four and five year prison terms which they are presently serving! Their only crime– education! The campaign has produced this powerful 30 minute documentary and secured an open letter addressed to the Supreme Leader, President and High Officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The letter is co-authored by Nobel Peace Prize Laureates Archbishop Desmond Tutu and President José Ramos-Horta of East Timor.
