Volunteer Open House and Mystery Hike

If you are looking for opportunities to give back to the community and you enjoy the outdoors and learning about nature, consider volunteering at Cheyenne Mountain State Park. The park is hosting a Volunteer Open House on Feb. 25 at the visitor center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Cheyenne Mountain State Park is located south of South Academy Blvd. on Hwy 115. Cheyenne Mountain State Park has a variety of volunteer opportunities, including: helping with adult, family, and children’s programs, leading hikes, trail maintenance, greeting visitors at the front desk, hosting special events, and teaching nature programs. People with other talents are encouraged to inquire how they can put those skills to use as a park volunteer.
No experience is necessary. All volunteers attend a 5-week training course and are given an opportunity to focus on their area of interest. Volunteers who contribute 48 hours or more within a 12-month period, receive an annual State Parks pass that is valid in all 42 Colorado State Parks. Cheyenne Mountain State Park, which opened in 2006, is situated just south of Colorado Springs. The 1,680-acre park lies beneath the eastern flank of the Cheyenne Mountain, and borders the plains of Colorado in a stunning transition from plains to peaks.
