IDEA Cabaret: Collecting Native America

On Friday, March 2 from 4:30 – 5:30pm, IDEA Space will host IDEA Cabaret: Collecting Native America. The Cabaret features a free interactive public conversation with Colorado College faculty members Esteban Gómez, Christina Leza, and Eric Perramond. Each will respond to the exhibition Indian Corner from his or her disciplinary perspective; audience participation is encouraged!

• Esteban Gómez, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, received his B.A. at UC Santa Cruz and his M.A. and Ph.D. from… Show more UC Berkeley. His dissertation, titled "Archaeology of the Colonial Period Gulf of Fonseca, Eastern El Salvador," uses traditional archaeological techniques, ethnohistoric accounts, and unpublished archival documents.

• Christina Leza, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, earned her M.A. in linguistic anthropology from the University of California, Davis and obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 2009, where she wrote a dissertation on indigenous activism in response to United States and Mexico border enforcement policies. She works with the Indigenous Alliance Without Borders and has won numerous grants and awards for her work. Her interests include legal and political anthropology, indigenous cultures and social movements in the Americas, and grassroots political organizing.

• Eric Perramond, Associate Professor and Chair of the Environmental Program, is a human-environment geographer, and a political ecologist, and holds a joint appointment in both the Environmental and the Southwest Studies programs at Colorado College. Eric received his Bachelor's at Mary Washington (VA), Masters from LSU (LA), and completed his PhD work at the University of Texas at Austin where his work focused on the dynamics of private cattle ranching in northern Mexico.
