'Grass Roots - African Origins of an American Art' Exhibition at Ursinus College

Tuesday, Feb 26, 2013 10:00a to 4:00p

This exhibition, which runs through March 16 at the Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus College, explores the impact of African coiled basket-making on economic development in the American South, as well as present-day environmental/sociological threats to communities who create this art form. Featuring baskets from South Carolina, Georgia and Africa, the exhibition documents the production of baskets from their use for rice in Africa, through the trans-Atlantic slave trade, to Carolina plantations.
