Talib Kweli
If skills sold, Talib Kweli would have been one of the most commercially successful rappers of his time. As it was, however, the earnest MC became one of the most critically successful rappers of his time, which dawned in the late '90s when he rapped alongside Mos Def and DJ Hi-Tek as part of the group Black Star....

The Real McKenzies
The Real McKenzies have been bringing out their hybrid of aggressive punk and traditional Scottish folk songs since their formation in 1992. After several lineup changes, this Vancouver-based sextet eventually settled with Paul McKenzie (vocals), the Bone (guitar/vocals), Kurt "Dirty" Robertson (guitar), Matt MacNasty (bagpipes), Brad Attitude (drums), and Jamie Fawkes (bass)....

The Dandy Warhols
Often compared to the druggy psychedelic pop of the Velvet Underground, the Dandy Warhols do possess more than just a passing resemblance to Lou Reed and company at times, but elements of such modern rockers as Love and Rockets and Ride can be detected in their sound as well....

Scott H. Biram
Scott H. Biram offers up a unique blend of "real" country, old-school acoustic blues, and punk, with influences ranging from Minor Threat and Slayer to Bill Monroe and Mississippi Fred McDowell. Biram is a one-man band, playing all his songs on a 1959 Gibson hollow body, yet each song he plays differs vastly from one to the next, and Biram dishes out a rare sense of self-confidence and independence only rivaled by the originators of outlaw country music themselves....

The Grog Shop is a cornerstone of Coventry Village and represents well the living, breathing music scene in Cleveland. I've seen thousands of shows there (including personal favorites like AddNtoX, Melt Banana, and Captured By Robots) and hope to see thousands more. For a smaller venue, the Grog Shop has managed to carve its own path in the zeitgeist of music.
