Crosby, Stills & Nash
The musical partnership of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash, with and without Neil Young, was not only one of the most successful touring and recording acts of the late '60s, '70s, and early '80s (with the colorful, contrasting nature of the members' characters and their connection to the political and cultural upheavals of the time), it was the only American-based band to approach the overall societal impact of the Beatles....

(Ravinia 8/22/10) Stephen Stills was blazing on leads, the harmonies still work, and the vocals of Crosby and Nash in particular were surprisingly strong. The best originals: Long Time Gone, Wooden Ships, Guinevere, and hold on -- Almost Cut My Hair (brought the house down - so to speak) and rightfully so. The covers were decent to very good with the Allman's "Midnight Rider" coming in the strongest.
I was a little let down by the Buffalo Springfield tune "Bluebird," which I had anticipated eagerly. I was looking for the wild abandon of the original (within reason), and there was no banjo. This one came across as formulaic. This was odd - as mentioned earlier - songs that would not normally match "Bluebird" for intensity surpassed it by a great deal.
Nice sing-alongs on Our House and Teach Your Children (which can bring tears to your eyes).
In summary - CSN did an excellent retro show. And they managed to give it a current feel. Most of that up-to-dateness was very good. The chords and harmonies on Guinevere were amazing. And the solos on Deja Vu were inspiring. Kudos to Crosby's son on keyboards. He sounds like a 60s guy. And the bass player was stellar.

I was left wanting more, more more! I forgot how amazing these guys are. They didn't disappoint. Crosby and Nash's vocals are as strong as ever. I'm hoping to see them again ASAP.
