The nest box monitoring program is a citizens science program managed by trained volunteers and park education staff. Volunteers are asked to visit next boxes and record statistics about the birds using the boxes. Cavity nesters like the Eastern Bluebird, Tree Swallow and House Wren benefit from this program. Training includes information about the birds, monitoring techniques and other requirements. Volunteers are needed to monitor boxes at six parks from April - August. The training is free.
