Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra: A Russian's Hallow Eve, Alina Ibragimova, violin, Andrey Boreyko, conductor
With a nod to All Hallows’ Eve, this all-Russian program begins with Mussorgsky’s famed Night on Bald Mountain and its eerie evocations of sorcerers, witches and evil spirits. Alina Ibragimova, whose playing “combines verve, brilliance and imaginative intelligence” (Gramophone), performs Prokofiev’s Concerto No. 1, music that is alternately lyrical, delicate, pungent and intimate. Tchaikovsky’s romantic and radiant Suite No. 3 closes the concerts.
