South Bay Salt Works
Chula Vista,
CA
The historic South Bay Salt Works, located on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge, is only open on a limited basis. The National Wildlife Refuge is managed by the US Fish & Wildlife Service, who has future plans to eventually restore some of the ponds into intertidal salt marsh.
The tour is conducted by San Diego Audubon Society docents, once/month during the winter season. There is a short and long walk. Wear sturdy shoes and layers of clothing for unpredictable weather.
No restrooms!
