Lyric… Show more Opera Virginia will present a "Jewel Box" production of Bizet's Carmen. This Jewel Box opera production will be a fully theatrical 90-minute alternative to the original version of Carmen, complete with costumes, lighting and all the musical jewels for which the opera is known. The starring role of the Spanish gypsy Carmen will be performed by the mesmerizing and evocative Polish mezzo-soprano Magdalena Wor.Known for her rich, seductive mezzo sound perfectly suited to the role of Carmen, Ms. Wor received high acclaim by Virginia audiences as Suzuki in last season's production of Madame Butterfly. Maestro Peter Mark conducts.
