The Lower Providence Community House is pleased to announce that they will receive the prestigious Historic Preservation Recognition Award from the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on March 8th. The log cabin built in 1938 is already designated as a Mecklenburg County Historic Landmark. The most recent projects have been the restoration of the chimney, fireplace and the log walls.
The club members have a commitment to maintain and preserve the legacy of this site. It is their treasure, built by local farmers decades ago for the women of the community to gather for their Homemaker's Club. Funding for the restoration projects have been from the Heritage Day celebrations and the monthly lecture series which has hosted historians, artists, authors and antique appraisers in the past. The club members gather for their meetings at 10am on the 3rd Monday of every month. New members are always welcome to share fellowship and learning. The 4th season of their lecture series will begin on Sunday March 25
