he signature community service event for the weekend will be the Real Men Push Reading project in partnership with the YWCA of the Central Carolinas. On Friday, March 27, fraternity members will share one-on-one reading time with students participating in the YWCA’s youth development program. The Fraternity’s International President, Paul Griffin has agreed to volunteer in this reading project.
The YWCA has launched this program to promote the importance of men, especially fathers with spending quality time reading with their children. This program consists of
1. Coordinating volunteer reading sessions at various community centers throughout Mecklenburg County
2. Collecting and disseminating books to program participants
3) Preparing and donating bookshelves to families.
In 2008, children participating in the Real Men Push Reading program were documented with an 85% increase in their reading EOG test performance from the previous year.
