Gem of the Ocean by August Wilson
This is August Wilson's first work of his ten play cycle dramatizing the African American experience during the 20th century. Drifter Citizen Barlow arrives at the home of 287 year old Aunt Ester in search of asylum and spiritual redemption. She guides him on a soaring, lyrical journey of self-discovery to the mythical City of Bones where everything is built. Once there, Barlow finds absolution and discovery of faith that moves him to act beyond the boundaries of his conscience.
