End the year on a high note by having fun, winning prizes, and helping a family out in a time of need.  The Carmel New Year’s Eve Treasure Hunt will be a challenging, camaraderie-building, cerebral event held to sponsor the Johnson family, a young family of five who is facing massive bills while the father, Matt, is battling stage 4 melanoma. Â
You’ll be able to ring in the New Year with historical Carmel trivia, a sore brain, a warm heart, and perhaps even the bragging rights of beating out… Show more all the teams and winning the prize which makes for a great New Year’s Eve party story that night. How The Hunt Works Teams of two to four people will meet at the Meadowlark Park pavillion to contest for the prize of the New Year’s Eve Hunt.  Each team will be given a packet with all the clues necessary to solve the puzzles and a map designating the treasure hunt boundaries.  Each clue corresponds to a location in the downtown Carmel area and each team will be required to provide  a number or word at that location in order to solve that clue.  Each clue will be assigned a point value and the team who earns the most points in a two-hour window will be deemed the winner and take home the prize. Also, all clues answers will be sent in via SMS or text message to speed up the scoring process.
Once the hunt is done, stick around for some wonderful hot chocolate because it will very likely be cold.
About The Johnsons Matt Johnson is a young father of three who is battling stage 4 melanoma. In recent months he has been in and out of the hospital and has been unable to work.  His wife, Sunshine, is his sole caregiver in addition to caring for their three children ages 2, 1, and 7 months. They do not have any income and are not eligible for most financial assistance but are facing rising bills. If you wish to donate more to the Johnson family than the cost of the treasure hunt ticket, you can donate online at  http://www.gofundme.com/1he0hc . FAQs Should I Come Early? Yes. Please come a half-an-hour to 15 minutes early to register, mix and mingle with your competitors, and scope out the competition.  The hunt begins at exactly 10:00, and if you are late then you are already behind. Hot chocolate is provided to all participants at the end of the hunt at the Meadowlark pavillion. Where does all this money go? 100% percent of your donation will be given to the Johnson’s to help them out in their time of need. The fee that you are charged is going to eventbrite for the use of their service in organizing the event. No part of your ticket money will be taken out for prizes or expenses needed for the hunt. Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? No ID requirements, but we do ask that anyone under the age of 18 be accompaied by an adult on their team.  Children 12 and over will be charged for participating in the event.  Children under 12 can go along with their parents free of charge but are an unofficial team member and are not eligible to receive prizes unless they paid for a ticket. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? There is public parking at Meadowlark Park as well as in the downtown area.  Although the route can be done on foot, we would recommend having access to a car to find some clues. What can/can't I bring to the event? You can bring:
Weather appropriate clothing
A car
A smartphone (recommended)
Shoes
A flashlight
A GPS (optional but not needed)
You can’t bring:
A shovel (there will be no digging)
A crystal ball (There will be no seeking of the divines help to solve your clues)
Bribes (no paying off the judges please, but small donations of cookies are gladly accepted)
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions? You can contact Tim Flint at 317.658.0831 for more information, or click on the contact button to your right. This will also be the number to reach him at if there happens to be any issues while during the hunt. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No. If you wish, you can also use the Eventbrite app to show us your ticket. Otherwise you will be required to bring a printed ticket. What is the refund policy? We will provide full refunds minus transaction fees to those who cancel more than 24 hours in advance and half-refunds will be issued to those who cancel within 24 hours of the event. No-shows without a formal cancellation will not receive a refund. What happens if there is a blizzard? In the case of inclement weather (meaning dangerous whether), we will notify you of the cancellation and will reschedule the hunt for Saturday, January 5th at 10:00 AM. Will we have to dig for clues or speed around Carmel? Absolutely not. All clues will be outside on public property and there will be no need to climb, dig, deface property, or any other similar actions to solve the clues. Â Participants who are caught defacing property, breaking the law, or other similar actions will be ineligible for the prize. What are the physical requirements for this hunt? This particular hunt is more cerebral than physical. With that said, you will be walking, running, biking, or rolling anywhere from one mile to many, but if you use a car and plan your routes well by solving the clues, the hunt will be easily accessible by all participants.
Can we split up to find the clues? Not on your life. Treasure hunting requires the buddy system. Teams caught splitting up will miss out on all the wonderful prizes.
What if we tie? Ties will not be tolerated. If a team ties in points that teams returning time will be the tie breaker.
What happens if we are not back by noon? You will turn into a pumpkin. Sorry this isn't Cinderella. If you return with your clues after 12:00 p.m. you will lose points. If you are later than 12:10 p.m. you will not be eligible for the grand prize. But can still recieve a consolation prize.
What's the treasure? This is yet to be determined, but rest assured the prize(s) will be awesome! We are currently seeking sponsors for prizes so please contact us if you or someone you know is willing to be a sponsor.
What if I don't have a phone? Then beg, borrow, or steal one. Sratch the steal one. We don't condon stealing. But, we are requireing clues answers to be sent in via text message. Instructions will be provided on how to do this at the beginning of the event and standard text message rates apply.
Is there a rule book? You better believe it, and it will be sent out via email the week before the hunt.
Other considerations? All participants will have to sign a wavier before they can recieve their clue packet.
