Kent Library Athenaeum Event--Toward an Archaeology of Childhood in the Central Illinois River Valley

Wednesday, Feb 6, 2013 12:00p to 1:00p

Children played an important role in community life in the ancient past. Studying children in archaeological contexts can be difficult, but leaving them out of our studies leads to an inherently incomplete understanding of history. Dr. Bengtson will discuss her work on mortuary and village excavations from a prehistoric archaeological site in the Central Illinois River Valley. Archaeology of childhood contributes a richer interpretation of social life within this unique prehistoric community
