This training event is for people who wish to be certified or re-recertified to mentor Education for Ministry (EfM) seminar groups. Two classes will be offered during this event:
Basic/In-Service  is for those who are not yet certified to be mentors or for active mentors who need to renew their basic skills. This class will help you discern whether you are called to be an EfM mentor and to provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to succesfully mentor an EfM seminar. This class is open… Show more to anyone with a working knowledge of the Bible, church history, and theology. Completion of the EfM program or seminary education is a recommended but not required prerequisite. Â
Formation Spirituality  is for experienced, active mentors who do not need to renew their basic skills. During this class you will experience and explore your own spirituality and draw implications for mentoring by having a time of refreshment and renewal. This will be achieved through deepening your relationship with God and exploring resources for your spirituality. This class is open to active mentors who have successfully completed at least two Basic/In-Service classes and who were recommended for a Formation class after their last Basic/In-Service class. Active mentors must re-take a Basic/In-service class after three consecutive Formation classes.
Mentors must be willing to relate their faith to their lives and to explore theological issues in depth while working in a small community engaged in that quest. They are trained to help others in the seminar group develop their ability to think theologically. Accreditation of mentors at a basic training is not automatic; it is a discerning process worked out between individual participants and the trainer.
Mentor training is intensive and rewarding work, requiring 18 contact hours. If you cannot attend the entire workshop, please come another time. Late arrivals and early departures are disruptive to the training.
This training event will be held at Notre Dame Retreat House –a modern and comfortable Roman Catholic center overlooking beautiful Lake Canadaigua. The registration fee includes food (6 meals) and lodging (2 nights). All lodging rooms will be single occupancy with en suite bathrooms.
