Workshop Description:
Want to make video games? There is no better way than with Unity. Unity is an amazingly powerful game engine used by bedroom coders, chart topping iPhone games, and console gracing AAA titles. It's also remarkably simple to use and completely free!
In this full day workshop, you will learn how to get started by diving right into the Unity editor… Show more and building a simple game with Trevor's guidance. You will learn how the Unity Interface and Unity Engine works, how to write and use basic C# scripts, how to create/move/destroy Game Objects, and so much more. A t the end of the day you’ll come out with a working, simple 3D game that you’ve coded and put together from top to bottom, ready for PC/Mac/Linux/Web, along with the skills and resources to take your game development skills even further on your own!

Introduction to Unity
Tour of the Unity Editor interface and layout.
Unity Engine Basics: Assets, Game Objects, and the Update loop
Basic scripting in C#
Moving around Game Objects
Instantiating and destroying GameObjects.
How to add Input such as Keyboard, Mouse, and Joystick
Collision Detection
Building and publishing

Please bring a laptop with the latest version of Unity installed . No previous Unity or programming experience is required. We recommend showing up a half hour early so that you are settled in, comfortable, and ready to work at 10:00am.

Trevor Stricker has made video games since the Dreamcast. He has been a lead programmer on large teams (Fantastic Four, Quickhit NFL Football). He has been a designer on Gamerankings 90+ games (NBA 2K1, Panzer Dragoon Orta). He has made chart topping games for the iPhone (Jungle Rumble).
