Nabokov: The Master of Riddles
The great Russian-American writer Vladimir Nabokov was not only the author of the famously controversial novel Lolita but also one of the most dazzling prose stylists of the 20th century. In this course we will examine how desire and passion, and their common counterparts cruelty and vulgarity, combine in his writing to produce an exceptionally strong aesthetic experience. No prior knowledge of Nabokov's fiction or the "unreliable narrator" theory is necessary.
