It's All in Your Head: Phrenology & the Mind
Phrenology, a faux science, proclaimed that a skull’s shape revealed character while separate areas of the brain housed passions and values. In 1832 J.G. Spurzheim, a German lecturer, introduced Boston to the movement. After his untimely death, his Mount Auburn gravesite attracted crowds. This tour with historian Dee Morris highlights phrenology fans such as Julia Ward Howe along with other notables who explored the mind’s landscape.
