Intact Financial Corporation and the University of Waterloo have partnered to deliver a national initiative involving projects designed to reduce the physical, financial and social impacts of extreme weather events. They are supporting 20 projects located across the country, including a workshop series that will showcase British Columbia’s Water Balance Model Express for Landowners. Starting on October 23 and ending on November 3, the 5-city series will feature workshop events in Calgary, Toronto,… Show more Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.
Back in 2004 folks from the Pacific Northwest visited Alberta to talk about their learnings in sustainable stormwater management. Those discussions were part of the early impetus to the formation of the Alidp. Ten years later...how has rainwater management evolved in B.C.? How does the policy environment compare to Alberta and the rest of Canada? How is B.C. addressing the challenge of unfunded infrastructure liability and the role of private land in the management of stormwater? What tools have they developed? What education and outreach initiatives are municipalities undertaking in the Georgia Basin?
Live demonstrations of tools and integration with municipal Gis systems and Google Maps will be featured. Of particular note will be several case studies highlighting the implementation of water balance modelling to lot redevelopment and densification.
Content for municipal planners, policy makers and asset managers will be particularly strong in this session. This is not a modelling workshop.

About the Climate Change Adaptation Project. City Infrastructure has been identified by the Climate Change Adaptation Project as the #1 Industry and Public Sector Climate Change Challenge. Incorporating adaptation into city planning policy is seen as a primary solution:
To this end, we recommend that cities embed the “no regrets” approach to climate change into city policy, with specific reference to adaptation. A “no regrets” approach to climate policy identifies actions that improve infrastructure resiliency and generates community benefits – whether anticipated climate change materializes, or not.
