HD Essentials: Understanding HD Formats & Compression - Los Angeles

The HD Essentials  series of classes focus on the many different aspects of working with HD video formats. From shooters to post production professionals, these classes will help anyone find their way through the maze of HD production. The series is broken down into eight parts – Camera Fundamentals, Understanding HD Formats and Compression, Audio for Location Recording, The Hows and Whys of Lighting, Workflows & Media Management, Introduction to Digital Cinema, The Secrets of Optics, and Choosing… Show more the Right Camera. These classes build on each other, but can also be taken individually.
The second part of the series is a three-hour course focusing on the many different HD video formats. The course is designed to give shooters, producers, and editors a better understanding of the video formats available today and how they compare with each other.
Topics include broadcast standards, frame rates, compression, color space and recording media. Formats covered include Sony Xdcam, Panasonic P2, Arri Alexa, Red Raw, Canon HDSLR, Canon XF, Avchd and HDV.
This is a lecture course in which the instructor will present topics and give practical examples. Students will be given the opportunity to ask questions and present scenarios that relate to the topic. A minimal knowledge of video formats is assumed, but not required for the class.
