Science on Screen: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Monday, Apr 22, 2013 7:00p
Coolidge Corner Theatre Brookline, MA

Artist and director Julian Schnabel's fiercely beautiful film is based on Jean-Dominique Bauby's memoir, which he dictated by blinking his left eye after a stroke left him with locked-in syndrome - mentally alert but unable to speak or move any part of his body, except for that one eye. Before the film, Boston University neuroscientist Frank Guenther talks about the development of brain-machine interfaces to restore communication and other capabilities to locked-in patients.
