Machito: A Latin Jazz Legacy and Q&A with Mario Grillo and Bobby Sanabria
This film was released in 1987 and was made by Bronx photographer and filmmaker Carlos Ortíz. It is the story of the bandleader Machito, whose group, Machito’s Afro-Cubans were the originators of the music we call Latin jazz and mambo, at the Park Plaza ballroom in East Harlem prior to World War II. The film will be followed by a Q&A with Machito’s son, bandleader Mario Grillo and Bobby Sanabria.
