If I could rate a zero, I would.
A friend and I went last night (5/18/09 @ 10pm). When we arrived, the place was at 40-50% capacity: a few couples and possibly two larger parties. The greeter gave a weird look and told us to have a seat. He dissapeared. After some time (around 15-20 minutes), a younger gentleman walked up to us with a puzzled look on his face and asked if he could help us. After telling him we were waiting to be seated, he stumbled for words (he didn't speak perfect english), and told us "It's already 10:20... It's already 10:20.."... kind of (but not specifically) giving a hint that they were closing soon. He said the kitchen would close at 10:30 and that we wouldnt be able to eat, but we could order drinks at the bar. He constantly broke eye contact (looking out the window, at the floor) as we tried to ask further about the closing time, so we just decided to leave.
Suspecting something, we called and asked the closing time. On the phone, I was told (by who I think was the owner), that they were closing at 12am and the kitchen closes at 11:30pm.
We were coyly denied service and "gotten rid of" for absolutely NO reason.
Don't know if it was race (I'm of Indian descent, but my friend is Irish/Italian American) or clothing (I live a block away from the place and everyone has said they have gone there wearing jeans and a t-shirt at some point or another, as we were.)
But in the end, it looks like Mamma Maria is run and staffed by prejudiced and two-faced people who pick and choose who they want to serve (on whatever basis).
Never again.
