This workshop is for writers of prose and poetry . This two week course is designed for writers and poets currently at beginner to intermediate level. In particular, this workshop will benefit people who love creative writing but have never taken any classes. More broadly speaking, if the description below interests and excites you, then this course is for you.
In the first session I will introduce you to techniques that will drastically improve the way the reader identifies with and relates to your… Show more prose. This includes writing using the senses and understanding metaphor right to its core . You will leave this course with a deep understanding of metaphor and simile, which will improve the quality of your writing for life.
You will be given enjoyable writing exercises, which you may read out to the group if you wish to. In the same way, you will have the chance to write and read out poems and short extracts of prose.
In the second session, I will begin by expanding on the exercises relating to metaphor covered the previous week. Next we will briefly explore rhythm and rhyme, and how these can be used to reinforce the desired emotions when writing poetry. To finish, there will be a chance for people to read out short pieces of writing written within the second session, or in the week between the two sessions.
Over the two weeks we will look at examples of truly brilliant writing, demonstrating how these techniques can be used to create excellent prose and poetry that resonates with the reader.
This course course starting 1st November concludes a fortnight later at the same time and place (15th Novemeber.) The courses starting 14th November and 4th December conclude a week later at the same time and place (21st November and 11th December.)
