This three week course explores the three big aspects of lyric writing – content, rhythm and rhyme. The course continues weekly at the same time and place for three weeks in total. Each session lasts two hours. For example, the course taking place in December starts on the 7th, continues on the 14th and concludes on the 21st.
In week one, we explore content . This involves learning to write using the senses, a skill that drastically improves the quality of writing. You will also gain a solid understanding… Show more of metaphor . There is so much more to metaphor and simile than you could ever imagine. This is one of my favourite parts of the course and would be of interest to creative writers, as well as songwriters.
In week two we look at rhythm . We explore the natural rhythm of words and how rhythmic structures can be used to reinforce the emotions behind the lyric.
In the final week we delve into rhyme . I highlight the different types of rhyme, as well as various rhyme schemes and how rhyme can, like rhythm, be used to support the desired emotion. Rhyme scheme can also be used to highlight the most important lines in a song. Furthermore, I demonstrate lyrical voice leading, and identify which vowel sounds are easiest to sing in high register.
This workshop is suitable for beginners . However, this course examines lyric writing in great depth and detail, so is equally suitable for experienced songwriters . This course is designed to help you enhance your craft and write professional lyrics capable of moving your audience. If this is something that is of interest to you, then this workshop is for you, regardless of your age or ability.
