Cat Show

Many of the highest scoring cats in the country will be competing for prestige and points at a cat show in Brighton next weekend. That’s because the upcoming 10 ring show is the biggest scheduled in the US for the weekend of February 18-19.
“We expect several hundred cats from all over the country to be in Brighton for the show,” said show manager Stephanie Thompson. The all breed Cat Fanciers Association sponsored show is open to 40 breeds of pedigreed cats and has a special class for non-pedigreed… Show more household pets. “Each of the 10 judges will pick his or her top ten cats for the highest awards,” explained Thompson.
Each breed has a set of standards of conformation by which they’re judged. In addition to the widely known breeds like Persian, Manx and Abyssinian, lesser known breeds like the Norwegian Forest Cat, La Perm and Egyptian Mau may be entered.
In addition to viewing the judging, spectators are encouraged to speak with owners about their entries, visit the many vendors who sell pet related items and to enter a raffle which will benefit the Cat Care Society. “We’re excited we have so many items to raffle off to benefit such a worthy organization,” Thompson said.
The Cat Care Society is in its 31st year in Lakewood. It’s a cat shelter and vet clinic. It’s known for low cost neuter and spay operations. During the month of February the clinic features free dental exams for cats.
The cat show will be at the Adams County Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall in Brighton, 9755 Henderson Rd. the weekend of February 18th and 19th. Show hours are from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm both days. Fees for spectators are $5 for adults and $15 for a family of three or more. Children 6 to 17 and seniors 65 and over will be charged $3. Children under 6 are free.
