Sunday, Jul 28, 2013 1:30p to 1:00p

For almost 200 years, the Handel and Haydn Society (H&H) has been bringing early music to audiences in Boston. For the Boston Summer Arts Weekend, the crack musicians of H&H offer a cornucopia of Baroque classics during brunch with 99.5 WCRB Classical New England’s Laura Carlo, host of Baroque in Boston.

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band
The Preservation Hall Jazz Band Remove performer from this event
Formed in New Orleans in 1961, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band is one of the last links remaining to the iconic sound of traditional New Orleans jazz. The scene/school that birthed the talents of Louis Armstrong and King Oliver is still alive and well in New Orleans because of the elderly veterans (plus some of their younger acolytes) of the PHJB....

Born in Benin, West Africa, Angelique Kidjo spices her funky, vocal-driven dance music with rhythmic and percussive details of her homeland. The distinctly African drumbeats on most of her albums, as well as the richness of her voice and the rhythm of her native language, Fon, have given Kidjo a boost in her rise to the status of international musical sensation....

Carlos Nuñez is the poster boy of Galician music, but it's a title he has earned by both talent and hard work. Cutting his teeth on New Orleans session work while still a teen in the 1950s, pianist and singer Dr. John (born Mac Rebennack) emerged in the late 1960s with GRIS-GRIS, a blend of snaky rhythms, Crescent City funk, and swampland voodoo flair....

Jan 18, 2010 - Case21 on The Preservation Hall Jazz Band
Nashville Show 1-16-10

We had a great time! The Nashville symphony was tremendous. It was the first time we had heard them. The conductor was fantastic. Ben Jaffe and the rest of the Preservation Hall Band are unbelievable. They had the entire hall dancing and clapping. The 2nd line was cool and the audience participation on stage was great. We were still dancing the next morning. We highly recommend this band and wish we could see them again soon.

Nov 09, 2007 - Tharrah on Dr. John
This guy looks like a pimp!

You have to respect that in this day and age. Especially when they put Dr. in their name. Event his background makes his sound awesome. He apparently lost his ring finger on his left hand from a gunshot wound. Thats pretty hard core if ask me. I would see him if only because he sounds like he's got great stories, that I hope he tells in between songs.
