Historic Walking Tour of Hyde Square, Jamaica Plain
Learn about 1840s Hyde Square when German and Irish immigrants transformed the neighborhood. Then learn how in the early 1960s, Hyde Square changed again when Latino immigrants moved in and changed it again to the 'Latin Quarter'. This tour also takes us to the home of Maud Cuney Hare, a prominent African American musicologist and pioneer for integration. It also visits an early site of the Perkins School for the Blind and a “worker’s utopia” built as model housing for working families.
