Gallery Talk: Painting The Senses
Leonardo da Vinci wrote that painting was "worthier" than all other forms of art because it served "the noblest sense"-- sight. But what of our other senses? How can paintings engage not just the eye, but also the hand, the ear? Together we will consider how painters of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries allowed various forms of sensory experience to inform and structure their work. This gallery talk is led by graduate student guest lecturer, Caitlin Henningsen.
