Life in the Art World: Life Magazine and Modern American Art
First 2013 lecture in the Nichols House Museum lecture series. Life magazine was a champion of American modernism, actively promoting the work of 20th-century artists and architects, including Georgia O’Keefe, Stuart Davis, Jackson Pollock, and Frank Lloyd Wright. The lecture by Melissa Renn will explore the magazine’s alliances with artists, architects, curators and critics, and will discuss how such collaborations influenced public’s reception of modern art in the US.
