BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- "American Idol" star Taylor Hicks has officially branched out into the restaurant business.
Ore, the neighborhood bar and grill that lists Hicks as one of its owners, quietly opened late last week in the former Open Door Cafe location on Dunston Avenue in Birmingham's Crestline Park.

The restaurant has been in the planning stages for several months, and workers were still putting some of the finishing touches on the overhaul of the building as recently as Monday.

Ore's industrial-themed decor celebrates Birmingham's history as a steel city, and the menu features pan-roasted chicken, grilled fish, rib-eye steaks, sandwiches and salads.
