Going to the Ends of the Earth to Study the Beginnings of Time: A Science@Cal Event

Saturday, Jan 18 11:00a
159 Mulford Hall Berkeley, CA

The cosmic microwave background radiation is the oldest light we can see, dating to just after the Big Bang. The pursuit of the cosmic microwave background has driven scientists to the coldest and driest desert on the planet: the high Antarctic plateau. We will discuss what we know about the Big Bang and what it's like to work at the bottom of the world. Our lecturer will be Dr. Christian Reichardt, a researcher at UC Berkeley and frequent traveller to the South Pole.
