Program IV: Salonen, Saariaho, Beethoven

Thursday, May 1 8:00p to 10:00p

The final concert features two works written during the last decade by two of Finland’s most influential composers. Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Nyx, named after the Greek goddess of night, weaves a tapestry of shimmering textures and otherworldly waves of sound. Kaija Saariaho’s Adriana Songs, from her second opera Adriana Mater, explores the experience of bringing a child into the world during a time of war and global hostilities. The program concludes with Beethoven’s beloved Symphony No. 5.
