A "gene machine"! That is the promise of the emerging field of synthetic biology, where engineering and biology meet. Synthetic biology finds ways to use cells as tools and is expected to transform such industries as medicine, energy, and manufacturing.
UCB Prof. John Dueber and his students will present their work in this exciting field, including their efforts at an annual worldwide gene machine competition involving thousands of undergraduates.
