Everyday Life and Everyday Science in the Precolumbian Maya World: A Science@Cal Event

Saturday, Dec 15, 2012 11:00a

Mayan culture is much in the news as we draw closer to December 21, 2012 -- a special date in their extraordinary calendar system. This talk presents the lives of the Maya, including how they developed their calendars. Far from predicting the world's end, their use of dates in the distant future shows how they exercised control over their world through technology.
Rosemary A. Joyce is a Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley.
