The Threads That Bind: Textiles by Kentucky Artisans

A new exhibit, “The Threads that Bind: Textiles by Kentucky Artisans” will open Sept. 1 at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, and will be on display through Feb. 23.

This exhibit showcases the work of 21 Kentucky textile artisans who create a wide range of work including clothing, jewelry, wall art, sculpture, quilts and more. Textiles on display are composed of fabric, fiber and threads that weave, embellish, construct, shape, quilt or otherwise create the design.

Pattern, texture, abstraction,… Show more symbolism, innovation, realism and whimsy are all revealed in this colorful exhibition. From the complex, patterned and layered weaving “Park and Pond View” by Philis Alvic, to the knitted rendering of sausage links in Stacey Chinn’s “What’s for Dinner?,” these textiles show a broad range of techniques and approaches using thread.

Chinn, Lexington; Mary Colmer, Berea; Pat Darif, Louisville; Marilyn Foulke, Louisville; Yvonne Abma Fritze, Louisville; Pat Jennings, Berea; Gloria Kemper-O’Neil, Louisville; Lily Liu, Paducah; Gena Mark, Lexington; Margaret Merida, Farmington; Marti Plager, Louisville; Bobbie Rafferty, Louisville; Jennifer Reis, Morehead; Felice Sachs, Louisville; Barrett Shaw, Louisville; Cindy Vough, Lexington; and Joanne Weis, Louisville.

A public meet-the-artists reception will be Sunday, Sept. 30, from 1-3 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.
