Chiaroscuro is an Italian term literally meaning "light dark." It is used to describe the balance of light and dark with strong contrasts for dramatic effect. Mastering this concept brings realism, volume, and depth to artwork. Instructor Cooper Lanza will begin by having you work with simple charcoal on paper--drawing geometric forms (like a sphere or cube) with a direct light source. By course end, you'll have a basic understanding of this time-proven technique and newfound artistic skills.
