Donovan arrived on Bellingham Bay in 1888 and proceeded to bring three transcontinental railroads to town, run one of the world’s largest lumber companies, work tirelessly in civic, church and philanthropic affairs, fight the Klan, love his wife and family, write poetry, read copiously and entertain friends with his wit and wisdom before his death in 1937.
