Hardly ever seen by audiences outside Russia, Esmeralda is based on Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame and was originally staged in 1844. With some amplifications, this production reconstructs choreographer Marius Petipa's 1899 staging, with Maria Alexandrova dancing the title role, Denis Savin, and Ruslan Skvortsov, conducted by Pavel Klinichev.
