Maryland Death Fest 2013

Friday, May 24, 2013 12:00p
Baltimore Soundstage Baltimore, MD

After 10 years and over 300 bands representing over 20 countries, the Maryland Deathfest (or "MDF" for short) has developed into the premier metal festival in the United States, and one of the most talked about festivals internationally.

The concept of MDF is simple: to bring to the United States the best and most extreme bands the underground has to offer. Never conforming to trends, or being limited by genre restrictions, MDF is a showcase of what extreme music, both new and old, is capable of.

Carcass are an extreme metal band from England, formed in 1985 and disbanded in 1995. A reunion was enacted in 2008 without one of its original members, drummer Ken Owen. Although widely regarded as pioneers of the grindcore genre, their early work was also tagged as "splatter death metal", "hardgore" and "goregrind" on account of their morbid lyrics and gruesome album covers.
Venom
Venom Remove performer from this event
One of the original bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal that sprang up in the late 1970s, Venom played a menacingly fast style of black metal that would be ripped off by bands from across the metal spectrum in the decades to follow....

Broken Hope Remove performer from this event
Chicago-based black metal band Broken Hope was formed by singer Joe Ptacek, guitarist Jeremy Wagner and drummer Ryan Stanek following the dissolution of their previous band, Crypt; adding lead guitarist Brian Griffin and bassist Ed Hughes, the group's early demos soon earned a contract with Grindcore Records, and in 1991 they issued their debut LP Swamped in Gore....
Manilla Road
Manilla Road Remove performer from this event
Wichita, KS-based Manilla Road is one of America's -- make that the world's -- great cult heavy metal bands. Geographically isolated, fiercely independent, and highly original, the group has rarely toured and never seen a single album released by a major record company, but has nevertheless managed to endure in one form of another for over two decades....
Repulsion

Los Angeles-by-way-of-Chicago instrumental quartet Pelican pride themselves on being impossible to classify. While it might be easy to label them metal, their extended compositions explore too many moods and textures to be reduced to a single genre....
Ambassador Gun
Ambassador Gun Remove performer from this event
Minneapolis, MN's Ambassador Gun aren't really a grindcore band in the strictest definition of the term, but they certainly perform their invariably concise jabs of sonic Armageddon at blinding speeds and rampant violence -- even the songs that, if slowed down to "normal" tempos, might qualify as straightforward rock & roll....
