Peggy Stern, Jay Clayton, Amy Shook: Three Brilliant Jazz Women Play Baltimore

Pianist Peggy Stern is an exciting performer and one of America's leading ladies of jazz. Jay Clayton is an acknowledged master of improvisational vocals and now a professor at the Peabody Institute. Amy Shook is one of the most in-demand upright bassists, beloved for her huge sound and infectious groove.

Stern has long been respected for her terrific piano skills and her compositions, which reflect European, American, Brazilian, African, Jewish, Irish, and Cuban influences. She and Clayton have been on the jazz scene for ages and have developed a very relaxed, trusting musical rapport. "Jay and I have been in cahoots for thirty-five years," says Stern, with her characteristic sense of humor. "Performing with Amy Shook will be a real pleasure; she's pretty intuitive herself."
