GENaustin’s We Are Girls Conference is a statewide annual conference that helps girls explore the issues of bullying, body image and being a girl. This year’s We Are Girls Conference is being held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 9 Am – 3:00PM, at Austin High School.
If you’re interested in volunteering with the We Are Girls Conference then read through the position descriptions below and choose whichever area you are interested in assisting… Show more with. You are able to choose more than one shift as long as the times don't overlap. You can only register for yourself. Group leaders are not permitted to register a large number of people.
Please note that there is a mandatory volunteer training taking place at Austin High School on Saturday November, 1st from 11:30am- 12:30pm . This volunteer training will be held on-site in the Austin High School cafeteria. If you absolutely cannot make this orientation, please contact brittany@genaustin.org . We will be in touch closer to the volunteer training date with more details.
The We Are Girls Conference is in need of volunteers in the following capacities:
- Registration from 7:15am to 10:45am. These volunteers check-in all of the attendees, give them the necessary materials, and direct attendees as needed. We need approximately 35 people for this position.
- Information desk from 7:30am to 11:45am Or 11:30am to 3:30pm (or the whole day). These volunteers will be stationed in a central location to answer questions, as well this position is responsible for going to each classroom after every breakout session and collecting all the evaluations. If you are familiar with Austin High School, this is the perfect job for you! We need approximately 3 people for this position at all times.
- Speaker check-in from 8:30am to 11:30am Or 11:15 to 2:45pm (or the whole day.) These volunteers will be stationed at a table where the workshop providers can check-in, ask questions, and fill out a survey about their experience. We need approximately 8 people first shift and 3 people for this position second shift.
- Lunch/hospitality/snack from 10:45am to 2pm. These volunteers will help keep our hospitality room neat and clean and serve our boxed lunches to the attendees. Also they will ensure that all speakers receive lunch. We need approximately 16 people for this position.
- Audio-visual support from 9:00am to 2:30pm. We really need help this year from individuals familiar with projectors and laptops to troubleshoot any issues that the speakers encounter. We need approximately 3 people for this position at all times.
- Room monitoring from 9:15am to 3:15pm. This is an all day position that cannot be split into shifts. Room monitors assist the speakers with their workshops. They also introduce the speaker and administer the conference evaluations. Volunteers for this position must be women. We need approximately 60 people for this position.
-SPIRIT SQUAD/Hallway monitoring/Directional Assistance from 7:30am to 3:30pm (half day option available). This position will have a large role in the rally at the beginning of the day, and you shouldn't be shy about getting on stage and getting people pumped about the day! Hallway monitors answer any questions that the attendees have and help them find their way to workshop sessions. We need approximately 10 people for this position throughout lthe day.
- Gym and Performing Arts Center Monitoring from 8:00am to 11:45am Or 11:30am to 3:00pm (or the whole day). The gym is going to be a busy place all day. We need people who can help coordinate the activities there. We need approximately 4 volunteers for this position at all times.
-Hospitality Room— from 7:30am to 3:00pm (or half day). Volunteers in the hospitality room will make sure that all volunteers and speakers have what they need throughout the day. Ensure that the room is stocked with lunches at lunch time, etc. These volunteers are also in charge of making sure there is plenty of coffee available at all times. We need 2 people for this position at all times.
- Event set-up this opportunity will take place on Friday, November 14th from 8:30pm-10:30pm to help us set up Austin High. We know it's late, but Austin High has a basketball game that evening, so we go in directly afterwards and set up.THIS Position Does Not Require You To Attend The Volunteer Training. We need approximately 15 volunteers for this position.
- Phone Bank this opportunity is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28th at 6pm and Thursday, November 13th at 6pm in the GENaustin office. We will be calling several of our workshop attendees and registering them over the phone as well as making reminder calls. There will be dinner for all participating volunteers. This Position Does Not Require You To Attend The Volunteer Training. We need approximately 8 volunteers for this position.
