Jello Biafra
Jello Biafra Remove performer from this event
Outspoken former San Francisco mayoral candidate and punk rock gadfly Jello Biafra formed the highly influential band the Dead Kennedys in the late 1970s. Following that band's contentious dissolution, Biafra became a fierce advocate of numerous left-wing causes, with First Amendment and free speech issues being a particular passion due to the DK's many censorship battles....
The Dictators
The Dictators Remove performer from this event
Countless debates have been held as to who was truly the first punk band. A good many New Yorkers would argue that punk was born in 1975 upon the release of the Dictators' first album, which featured singer Handsome Dick Manitoba on the cover in a stretchy black wrestling outfit....
Judas Priest

One of the most influential heavy metal bands of the '70s, and the one that spearheaded the New Wave of British Heavy Metal late in the decade. ~ Rovi
Meat Puppets
Meat Puppets Remove performer from this event
Out of all of the bands that made SST Records a towering force in the American underground during the mid-'80s, Meat Puppets lasted the longest, surviving where other bands fell apart. Meat Puppets never had the dedicated following of Hüsker Dü or the Minutemen -- two fellow SST bands who played the same circuit as the Puppets -- but they were able to carve out a long career where other hardcore bands could not, because they always drew from conventional hard rock as well as punk....
Gary Numan
Gary Numan Remove performer from this event
In the U.S., synth-pop pioneer Gary Numan only had one hit, 1979's new wave smash "Cars," but in his homeland of Britain he was a major pop star. As one of the first pop/rock artists to focus on synthesizers rather than guitars, Numan was enormously influential not only to the New Romantic and Electro scenes, but to the electronica that was still a couple of decades off....
Gorilla Biscuits
Gorilla Biscuits Remove performer from this event
Hardcore icons Gorilla Biscuits came together in the late '80s to add their two cents to the straight-edge scene in New York City. They were very reactionary, encouraging the movement away from the militant rules that many hardcore straight-edge fans had created around their favorite bands....
Rocket from the Crypt
Rocket from the Crypt Remove performer from this event
The greased hair, sideburns, and bowling shirts (not to mention the inclusion of a horn player) should naturally peg San Diego's Rocket From the Crypt as a typical retro garage act. Although the band's sound is muscular in a straightforward rock-&-roll way and they are more than capable of a pop hook, the band also owes a debt to classic hardcore and post-hardcore punk bands....
7 Seconds
7 Seconds Remove performer from this event
One of the first hardcore punk bands (forming in 1980), 7 Seconds was also one of the first to embrace the straight-edge lifestyle, abstaining from alcohol and drugs of any kind. Unlike many other bands on the hardcore scene, 7 Seconds had evolved well beyond the limiting blueprint of the genre by the late 1980s, incorporating more traditional rock and new-wave elements....

Of all the dubious titles awarded him — "The Sultan of Sleaze," "The Baron of Bad Taste," and so forth — filmmaker John Waters prefers "The Pope of Trash." Born in Baltimore to an upper-middle-class Catholic family, Waters has always been fascinated (obsessed, actually) with violence and gore....

Neil Hamburger
Neil Hamburger Remove performer from this event
Despite his appalling comic timing, muddled delivery, and cliched material, stand-up Neil Hamburger nevertheless emerged as one of the most acclaimed and name-checked comedians of his generation; like Lenny Bruce before him, he was a hipster icon whose trailblazing riffs defied conventions at every turn, transcending the confines of hilarity with kamikaze recklessness....

Nov 15, 2007 - jeremyf on Neil Hamburger
Maybe it is just me, but I don't get it

Okay, I get that this is meant to be awful. But gah! Maybe his act should be 5 minutes, not 25. I would only recommend this performer if you absolutely want to see how to perform stupid unfunny jokes onstage. The one perk is the annoyed audience does seem to find strange joy in booing and tossing things at Neil. I guess that is why he wears such thick glasses...to protect his eyes from stray objects.
