We took our sons the the Austin Ice Cream Festival last Saturday at Waterloo Park. What a mistake. We asked at the front gate, as we paid $15, if there were any free ice cream samples to justify our entrance fee. We were told that there were samples everywhere, and heard them tell other patrons the same thing. We found out there were no free samples anywhere. We were actually laughed at when we asked for them.
After paying to get in, you still had to pay for everything you did or ate or drank. And it was not cheap. Ice Cream was $5 for a couple of scoops (or $1 for a plastic spoon full to taste). All the carnival rides cost $2 (2 tickets @ 1$ each, tickets non-refundable). The inflatable slide would not slide. Our 4 year old tried to slide down and it was like he was wearing velcro. He had to crawl down. We demanded our 2 tickets back and got them.
The festical went to 7pm but we were told at 3:45 pm that they were out of water at several stands (it was very hot). There was a trailer literally stacked to the brim with water parked behind these booths, yet they wouldn't sell us any, even after we pointed the trailer out to them.
There was a stage with, I suppose, free music, but no bands played while we were there (though I admit we left in disgust after only an hour). We had dropped $40 in 30min, had 1 sno cone, one bottle of water, 16 tickets and no ice cream. We only stayed as long as we did so the boys could use up the tickets on the very old, dirty and scary carnival rides.
Does anyone know who I might contact to get our $15 entrance fee back? I wouldn't try to get my money back but we were definately mislead as to what this festival was.
