The Beauty of Brahms

Sunday, Jan 20, 2013 2:30p to 4:30p

At age 50, Brahms adopted the motto “frei aber froh” (free but happy). In a musical monogram, Brahms uses the initials of this phrase – F.A.F – to form a three-note theme that opens his Third Symphony. Auburn Symphony Orchestra's principal clarinetist, Jennifer Nelson brings to life, Carl Maria von Weber’s lively Clarinet Concerto No. 2. Concluding the program Zoltan Kodaly’s Variations on the Hungarian Folksong, “The Peacock” is exotic and songful, giving way to jolly and bright variations.
