Larry the Cable Guy started out doing humor bits for a radio station in Florida. As his popularity grew, Larry (whose real name is Dan Whitney) parlayed his bits into a proper stand-up routine and hit the comedy clubs in the Tampa Bay area. His big break came when fellow Southerner Jeff Foxworthy pitched the idea of a comedy tour loosely based on the Kings of Comedy, and asked Larry the Cable Guy to join. The Blue Collar Comedy Tour, which also included Bill Engvall, was successful enough to spawn a movie and CD. And while Foxworthy and Engvall were clearly the headlines, Larry the Cable Guy gave those well-established comedians a solid run for their money each night of the tour. He has also seen considerable success from his comedic recordings. His first two comedy albums, Lord, I Apologize (2001), and The Right To Bare Arms (2005), have both been certified gold by the RIAA. A third album, Morning Constitutions, and its accompanying TV special were released in 2007.
