Art of the Americas Lecture: jadeite, chocolate, and fine art

Thursday, Feb 21, 2013 7:30p

The surprising discovery in Costa Rica of Maya royal jewels from Guatemala, Honduras and Belize has puzzled art historians and archaeologists. Why did they end up in Costa Rica? Why were these valuable items re-carved? What was the framework of international exchange between Costa Rica and Mesoamerica? Dr. Dorie Reents-Budet will explore these questions through an overview of the artistic and archaeological records of the two regions with a focus on artworks.
