AHC Lecture: Martha M. Daniels, Mary Chesnut’s Illustrated Diary: Mulberry Edition Boxed Set

Saturday, Mar 3, 2012 2:00p

Mary Boykin Chesnut began her diary a few months before the attack on Fort Sumter, and ended it just days after the Civil War's last battle. Capturing the changing fortunes of the South and the role of politics, war, society, race, and slavery, the diary is now published with her personal photograph albums, which had been lost for over 80 years. Conscientiously annotated and edited by Martha M. Daniels, a Chesnut descendant, many of these personal images have never before been seen.
