Johnny Mercer was born in Savannah in 1909 and grew up listening to gospel, jazz and African-American folk music. He stole away to New York in the 1920s, where he launched his musical career. He enjoyed success as a lyricist, vocalist and record executive. He is credited with writing the lyrics to over 1,700 songs, with 100 hits and four Academy Award-winning songs. Join us for this special Centennial Celebration event!
